Mary J. Blige Files for Divorce from Husband After 12 Years of Marriage

R’n’B soul icon, Mary J. Blige, has reportedly filed for divorce from her manager/husband Kendu Isaacs, putting an end to their 12 years of marriage, according reports from People magazine.

In court documents filed on Tuesday, Blige cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as grounds for divorce and has asked to terminate the court’s ability to award spousal support to Isaacs.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, a date of separation is still “to be determined.”

While the couple have no children together, Blige, 45, has been a stepmother to Kendu’s children – Briana, Jordan and Nas – from a former relationship since they wed in 2003.

Mary J. told Wendy Williams during an interview on her show in 2012:

“My marriage is not on the rocks, but I would be a liar and my fans would hate me if I said to them, ‘Oh, we’re perfect and everything is great,'”

“We have situations just like everyone else. We’re not out in public trying to kill each other, but it’s real. We love each other.”

Four years after her marriage to Kendu, Mary J. told Parade magazine that Isaacs changed “everything” for her.

“He was the first person to ever challenge what I did: ‘Why are you drinking? Why do you hate yourself? You don’t need to be around people who tear you down. You’re beautiful, Mary.’ He was the first man to ever tell me that,” she told the magazine.
