Bobby Brown is getting candid and revealing everything about his controversial past life and relationship with music legend Whitney Houston. The former R&B sensation recently released his autobiography Every Little Step and spilled some serious beans about his upbringing, his New Edition days, doing drugs, connections to janet Jackson and Madonna and the death of his daughter Bobbi Kristiner.
Brown speaks about some of his famous lovers over the years, including Madonna and Janet Jackson
He claims that he kicked Janet out of their hotel room naked just after sex when she said: ‘My father won’t allow me to be with a black man‘
Brown tells a story about frying a chicken covered in cocaine when he was 10, believing at the time that it was flour
In a revealing interview on ABC’s 20/20, while promoting his new book, Brown angered Houston’s mother, Cissy, who criticized her former son-in-law for speaking ill of her late daughter.
“I saw Bobby Brown’s interview with Robin Roberts. It was disturbing. Although the interview was supposed to promote HIS autobiography, he never spoke about his parents and siblings and any issues they might have or have had that impacted and may continue to impact on ‘Every Little Step’ he takes,” Houston said in a statement earlier this month. “Instead he chose to concentrate his comments primarily on Whitney. I can’t help but wonder why.”
At the just concluded BET Awards media room, brown discussed the critics who’ve been outspoken about his decision to write so candidly about his life.
“When you take excerpts from a book, you’re only getting one piece. With my book, you have to read it cover to cover in order to understand exactly what I’m talking about,” the singer explained of his New York Times best seller. “I don’t downgrade nobody; I don’t do any bashing of anybody. My book was about 47 years of my life.”
Brown added: “If they get the book then they’ll realize the book ain’t about them; it’s about me.”
When Whoopi Goldberg asked Brown on The View panel, during a promotional tour of his book, why he was revealing everything now, and this is what he had to say:
“I don’t think I could have done it 10 years ago, I think just living through everything I’ve been through and trying to move forward in life, I had to get it all out, I had to get all the cobwebs out, everything that bordered me, that was heavy on my heart, heavy on my soul. So I decided why not just get it all out so that I could move on with life.”
Brown’s career ups and downs have been public knowledge for years. His multiple arrests, drug use/abuse issues, rocky marriage to Houston, and his on-again-off-again relationship with his New Edition band mates that eventually got him voted out of the group. Brown’s troubles have been on display for all to see. In Every Little Step, Brown takes readers through his past life right from his childhood to an RnB icon, as he knows it.
“This book is so important to me because, out of all of the trial and tribulations that I’ve been through, I’m still standing in front of you,” he said. “That says something for my beliefs and my faith in my higher power. This book will help a lot of people.”
Bobby Brown is also working on new music and is gearing up for the release of BET’s miniseries about the group that he co-founded and which helped launched his career, New Edition. While some have questioned his loyalty to his squad, Brown has been intimately involved in the film project, which he called “excellent.”
“I can’t wait for the people to see it,” Brown said, noting he’s also a producer of the three-part series and has visited the set several times during filming.
