The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday searched the residence of the immediate past Comptroller-General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko at Ahmed Musa Crescent, Jabi, Abuja

Dikko who voluntarily retired from the service shortly after the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari despite the fact that his second term had just begun. His successor in office, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) was said to have met a messy and stinking Customs when he came into the office and top officers who worked with Dikko were said not to be ready to work with him and they all retired voluntarily.

ARM learnt that this is the second time in three days that the EFCC personnel would invade a residence of the former Customs boss as the agency was said to have searched his house at Maitama on Wednesday.

It was learnt that the search might not be unconnected with the Federal Government’s investigation into revenue generating agencies, including Customs and Nigerian Maritime Administration Agency over non-remittance of revenues into government coffers.

The Customs is seen by many as one of the most corrupt government agencies in Nigeria and this was taken to new height under Dikko. According to Punch, the operatives who searched the two houses were specifically directed to look out for a large sums of dollars allegedly kept in the residences.

Dikko was said to be outside the country at the time of the operatives of the EFCC visited his residence.
