The 2016 American Music Awards took place last night in Los Angeles and some of your favourite stars celebrated the night by winning big. The show, which ran its 44th edition on Sunday night, eschews “best” accolades, instead honoring “favorite” artists and songs; nominees are culled from sales, not artistic pretensions, and the winners are determined by online polling.
Green Day took a dig at the President-elet Donald Trump during a heated performance of their 2016 track “Bang Bang”. The band inserted a bit of Born To Die, a 1982 single by the Texas hardcore outfit MDC that was updated a few weeks ago; that song’s original opening chant, “No war, no KKK, no fascist USA,” was amended so that it called out Trump.
Other performers on the night includes Bruno Mars, The Chainsmokers, Ariana Grande and Nikki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Sting, Twenty One Pilots and The Weeknd.
