President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the heads of Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC) and Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB).
A statement by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Aviation, Alhaji Sabiu Zakari, Monday evening noted that President Buhari had approved appointment of new chief executive officers to run the agencies.
Mr Fola Akinkuotu has been named the new Managing Director of NAMA. Akinkuotu is a seasoned Transport Pilot, Flight and Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, Airline Chief Executive Officer as well as a trained Aviation Industry Regulator.
Prof. Sani Mashi, a professor of Geography with speciality in Environmental Application of Remote Sensing will head NiMet as Director-General. Mashi is currently a Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Abuja.
Capt. Abdulsalam Mohammed, a renowned civil aviation trainer and examiner with accreditation by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority and the Federal Civil Aviation Administration, is the new Rector of NCAT, Zaria.
Mr Akinola Olateru, an engineer of international repute, will take over as the head of the Accident Investigation Bureau. Olateru is a trained Air Accident Manager and Certified Safety Officer with Aircraft Maintenance Engineering licenses in Nigeria, U.S. and the United Kingdom.
On the sacking of the Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Mr. Jim Obazee, this is said to connected to the resignation of Pastor Enoch Adeboye as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God based on a law by the FRC.
In a statement by by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu on Monday which reads: President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate removal and replacement of the Executive Secretary and the reconstitution of the board of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria.
“He has appointed a Chairman and a new Executive Secretary for the council. The new Council as approved by the President has Mr Adedotun Sulaiman, MFR as Chairman.
“Mr. Sulaiman was a former Managing Partner/Director of Arthur Anderson and later, Accenture. He is a Chartered Accountant and a product of the University of Lagos and Harvard Business School.
“The President has also approved the appointment of Mr. Daniel Asapokhai as the Executive Secretary of the Council. Mr. Asopokhai is a partner and a Financial Reporting Specialist at the PricewaterhouseCoopers, Nigeria.
“He is a product of the University of Lagos and the University of Pretoria. President Muhammadu Buhari has also instructed the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment to invite the nineteen ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government and private sector organisations specified in the FRC Act to nominate members of the board of the council.”
