President Trump In Telephone Conversations With Buhari And Zuma

US President Donald Trump shifted his focus to Africa yesterday with telephone conversations with President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria and President Jacob Zuma of South Africa. These are the leaders of the biggest economies in Africa.

The President Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said in a statement in Abuja on Monday that the conversation was cordial and Buhari congratulated Trump on his election as President of the United States, and on his cabinet.

Adesina said the two leaders discussed ways to improve cooperation in the fight against terrorism through provision of necessary military hard-wares. He also said President Trump commended President Buhari for the efforts he has made in rescuing 24 of the Chibok Girls and the strides being taken by the Nigerian military.

“Trump assured the Nigerian president of the U.S readiness to cut a new deal in helping Nigeria in terms of military weapons to combat terrorism. “Trump also invited Buhari to Washington at a mutually convenient date,” Adesina added.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Buhari, who is in London also had telephone discussions with the Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara.

President Zuma of South Africa also congratulated President Trump on his election. The two leaders also discussed the need to work together on global issues, especially in the quest for peace and stability in Africa.
