The Rwang Pam Stadium Stadium, Jos, yesterday was a beehive of celebration and jubilation as Plateau United was crowned champion of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, following a 2 nil defeat of defending champions Rangers International.
Plateau United goals were scored in each by Emeka Umeh in the 32nd minutes and Benjamin Turba in the latter stage of the second half.
The result saw the Kennedy Boboye coached Jos-based team amass 66 points from 38 games to lift the NPFL trophy for the first time in its 42 years history and, also, become the 19th NPFL champion.
Plateau United along with the second-placed MFM will represent in Nigeria in next season’s the CAF Champions League. Enyimba FC clinched the CAF Confederation Cup ticket courtesy of their third-place finish in the league.
The relegated clubs are Shooting Stars of Ibadan, Ilorin-based ABS FC, Remo Stars of Sagamu and Gombe United.
