Lightning need not strike twice to inflict horror and pain as it happened over the weekend in Rwanda at the Seventh-Day Adventist church on Saturday where it killed 16 and injured over 100. This is not voodoo or juju, nor a punishment for the sinners but a natural phenomenon.
Fourteen victims were killed on the spot as lightning hit the church in the Nyaruguru district on Rwanda. Worshippers were packed into the church for a service when the lightning struck the building.
Another two people later died of their injuries – with three people remaining critical, and 140 others being taken to the hospital.
Local mayor Habitegeko Francois confirmed the details as he revealed a lightning bolt had hit the church.
Lighting strikes are frequent across Rwanda which is a country covered in hills and mountainous regions. The phenomena killed 30 and injured 61 people as well as killing 48 animals in 2016.
The mayor added a similar incident occurred on Friday when lightning struck a group of 18 students – killing one.
