The Super Eagles of Nigeria might have lost to England in the international friendly match played at Wembley yesterday but the mad dash for the Nike produced Super Eagles jersey continues.
The jersey design which was inspired by the iconic strip of the worn for the 1994 World Cup in the USA by the debutant Nigeria team has been rated the best among teams going to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The jersey was officially released for sale on Friday and Nike’s Oxford Street store in London was greeted with long queue by the fans of the Nigeria national team who can’t wait to lay their hands on the jersey ahead of the match with England.
It was reported that Nike was overwhelmed with demands, with over 3m pre-orders orders for the jersey. This demand was not solely pushed by Nigerians, other nationals are equally interested in buying the jersey. The record-breaking jersey sold out online in just three minutes.
Nigeria might not win the world cup in Russia, but surely, the Super Eagles are a strong contender for the jersey of the tournament. In a poll conducted by AS, which asked readers to choose their favorite strip out of the 32 teams competing in the World Cup, the Super Eagles came in fourth, behind France, Germany and Spain.
The green-and-white home strip, along with the away jersey and training kit, are still unavailable on the Nike online store due to demands.
