The matriarch of the Awolowo family, Chief (Mrs) Hannah Idowu Dideolu (HID) Awolowo (nee Adelana) is dead.
HID, would have turned 100 on November 25 this year. She reportedly died shortly after a meeting on Saturday with her family members. Yeye Oodua, as she is also popularly known, was said to have been a part of the meeting for the planning of her 100th birthday.
HID was the wife of the Nigerian foremost politician, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. A successful businesswoman, she became the first Nigerian distributor for the Nigerian Tobacco Company (NTC) in 1957. She was the first to import lace materials and other textiles into Nigeria.
