There is a dark cloud over the stay of Jose Mourinho as the gaffer of Chelsea football club as the team has been wobbling since the commencement of the season.
Mourinho led Chelsea to the league title and Capital One Cup triumph last season, but the West London club have struggled this season with 11 points from nine games leaving them 12th in the table — 10 points behind table toppers Manchester City. The Blues to their worst start in 37 years this season and this has led to insinuations in some quarters that Chelsea might sack him.
Mourinho besides being colourful and controversial in nature is also one of the most successful coaches in the world. The slump at Chelsea is really a big surprise having won the league last season and with the crop of the players still playing for the team. Dietmar Hamann says he will be ‘stunned’ if beleaguered Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is still at the club by the end of the season and thinks the Blues boss ‘is begging for the sack’. According to him, Mourinho has made headlines for all the wrong reasons and their manager unleashing a volley of increasingly bizarre post-match rants.
‘It looks like he’s begging for the sack,’. ‘He seems to be falling out with all the players. ‘If you want to get a reaction from a player and you put him on the bench like he did with [Eden] Hazard the other day, it’s not a problem. But you don’t bring him on in the 89th minute to humiliate him and embarrass him even further.’ Chelsea have already lost six matches in all competitions this season and as well as Hazard, Mourinho has laid into club legend John Terry, among others.
Marcel Desailly has a contrary opinion. Desailly is optimistic Mourinho will haul Chelsea out of their slump but fears the Premier League title may be beyond them this season. “It will not be fair if Mourinho gets sacked but if Roman Abramovich wants to make a change, he will make a change. “He has been hard on Nemanja Matic, a little bit too much. Why? It is the first time he has spoken individually about a player. I think it is a small mistake. By saying that, he has lost him almost. So now he has to work hard to get him back. “The basic things that they were very strong last season are not there. They cannot defend anymore. “It is just a matter of time and patience, unless Abramovich decides to sack Mourinho. But if he has time, they are going to come back slowly. Though not at the speed that everyone is asking.”
Carlo Ancelotti has also given Mourinho vote of confidence. He said Jose Mourinho will not be sacked by Chelsea despite the Premier League champions’ disappointing start to the campaign. “I don’t think Mourinho will be sacked, absolutely not,” the former Real Madrid boss said. “He has changed little from last season and he’s at a club that he knows very well. Plus, the club knows Mourinho very well. “Jose is one of the top coaches of all time and if anyone can turn it around he is the person. “I believe that it’s mainly a problem of motivation at Chelsea. From a technical point of view, the team is the same as the one that dominated the league last year. But their motivation levels have dropped. “They had a terrible start and they need to rediscover their drive. The Champions League, in this instance, can help them, because it could give them an injection of confidence and help them rediscover the right determination.”
These are just opinions of people, the fate of Mourinho will be decided by Chelsea’s billionaire owner Roman Abramovich’s patience and appetite for diadem, and the speed with which Chelsea returned to winning ways. Football fans are some of the most impatient bunch on earth, when you are winning, the eulogies are endless. And the most the streak of defeat becomes one too many, past accomplishments are easily forgotten and torrent of condemnation falls like rain. To be sacked or time, the performance of Chelsea in the next one month will be the determinant of Mourinho’s stay.
