The Senate on Thursday confirmed the remaining 18 Ministerial nominees of President Muhammadu Buhari including the former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi taking the number to 36.
Also confirmed are – Adebayo Shittu, Prof. Isaac Adewole, Adijat Abba Ibrahim, Heineken Lokpobiri, Prof. Claudius Omoleye Daramola, Shehuri Mustapha, Ocholi James, Bawa Bwari, Geoffrey Onyeama, Hajia Zainab Ahmed and Monsur Mohammed Dan’Ali.
Pastor Usani Usani Uguru, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah, Prof. Anwuka Anthony, Mohammed Musa Bello, Adamu Adamu and Aisha Abubakar completed the list.
Amaechi’s confirmation was, however, without controversy. Senators elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) staged a walkout after the Senate President Bukola Saraki turned down their pleas that the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privilege and Commission must be obeyed.
The committee in its report had recommended that the confirmation of Amaechi should be suspended until he absolves himself of the allegation of corruption levelled against him.
Following the boycott of the PDP senators, only All Progressives Congress (APC) senators eventually confirmed Amaechi.
