Bayelsa Election: APC And PDP Neck And Neck-NIMN

The National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria has released the result of the opinion poll it conducted earlier this month on the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa State.

At a press briefing in Lagos earlier during the week, President of the institute, Mr. Ganiyu Koledoye, said the governorship election would either go the way of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party or the opposition All Progressives Congress.

Incumbent Governor of the Bayelsa, Mr. Seriake Dickson, is seeking re-election on the platform of the PDP but faces stiff opposition from the APC’s candidate, Timipre Sylva, a former governor of the state.

According to the NIMN, following its opinion poll with a sample size of 1,000 registered voters, distributed across the eight local government areas of the state, persons within the age bracket of 19-39 routed for the APC while individuals above 39 favoured the PDP.

Similarly, Koledoye said while 45 per cent of the female registered voters declared support for the PDP, 55 per cent backed the APC. In contrast however, 53 per cent of male voters showed support for the PDP while only 47 per cent favoured the APC.

Though the NIMN president disclosed that the statistics could change before the December 5, 2015 governorship election, the expectations of the people of the state were not likely to be different.

Koledoye said, “The essence of what we are doing is to provide the consumers, in this case the electorate, necessary information that could help them make informed choices and also improve the quality of service delivery. It is part of social responsibility and we are committed to serving the society.”
