Bill Gates, the world’s richest man and Microsoft founder said he is leaving his fortune to charity, not his three children.
Instead, Gates, 60, and his wife, Melinda, 52, are encouraging their kids to go to college, get jobs and have careers, offering to pay for their education and not much else.
“Our kids will receive a great education … they’ll go out and have their own career”, Gates said Wednesday in an interview on ITV’s “This Morning”. “It’s not a favor to kids, to have them have huge sums of wealth.”
Gates said his children – Jenifer, 20, Rory, 17, and Phoebe, 14 – understand their decision and are proud of their dedication to reducing poverty.
Gates and his wife started the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000. It is the largest transparently operated private foundation in the world.
Gates is currently worth about $78 billion.
