The security situation along the Birnin Gwari – Funtua road in Kaduna State is still very dicey as yet again, no less than 25 people were abducted on the road on Thursday by bandits.
The incident was reported to have occurred at about 3:45 pm between Kiryoyi and Maganda villages of Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna state. This is coming a week after it was widely reported that 44 people were abducted on the same road.
Five vehicles carrying an unspecified number of passengers were said to have been intercepted by armed bandits who ordered them out and took them to the bush.
The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Birnin Gwari branch, Taxi section, Danladi Duniya who confirmed the incident said: “I am not in a position to say precisely the number of people abducted, but they are many.
Maybe 25 or more than that. I cannot say, but all passengers in the vehicles were abducted and taken into the bush. “Nobody has heard from them since.
” They stopped five vehicles, one of the drivers who was driving a golf car managed to escape.
This is what we go through on the road and we are pleading with the authorities to help us address this problem. It is too much for us to bear. “People cannot go to farm and they cannot travel, this is too bad” he said.
The Army’s operation in the area tagged “operation Idon Raini” seems not to be dissuading the bandits, the both federal and Kaduna state governments must do more to end this abduction of people on this road.
