Boko Haram terrorists on Wednesday stormed about six villages in Damboa local government area of Borno State, killing at least 37 persons and torching hundreds of houses, security sources and witnesses said.
Those who survived the wild attack of the terrorists that drove in in four-wheel trucks and shooting indiscriminately in the air, were left with serious injuries.
A member of the youth vigilante, Civilian-JTF, Ahmed Ajimi, who spoke to our reporter by phone from Biu town said, “about 37 persons were killed when the Boko Haram terrorists attacked Koshifa, Matangale, Buraltuma, Darmanti, Almeri and Burmari villages of Damboa local government on Wednesday night.
Ajimi was amongst the few male youths that were lucky to escape the attack that forced him and many others to flee to Biu, 100km away from Damboa.
He said some members of the youth vigilante group and himself had to return back to the affected villages on Thursday where they met the entire villages totally burnt down and recovered about 37 corpses.
“What we saw in the villages was really horrifying”, said Ajimi. “Unlike before when they would gather people and open fire on them, the terrorists this time around, announced their arrival with sporadic shootings and throwing of what looked like petrol bombs on houses, which resulted in several burnt houses.”
Damboa is about 85 km south of Maiduguri, Borno State capital. Though many communities around and within Damboa had been sacked and residents forced to relocate to IDP camps in Maiduguri, these farming families still inhabit some villages around Damboa, especially those not far away from Biu local government area.
