Is it worth it to spend N1 billion on the recall process of Senator Dino Melaye? This is exactly how much it’s going to cost according the National Commissioner on Voter Education and Publicity, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prince Solomon Soyebi.
Prince Soyebi disclosed this while appearing on a programme on Channels television yesterday. He said that after the verification, there will be a referendum, followed by a fresh senatorial election if the recall is successful.
Soyebi said that the senatorial election alone will cost the commission about N300 million to properly conduct. When asked how much it would cost to properly execute the entire recall process from verification to election, he said, “about N1 billion”.
Meanwhile, an Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has ordered parties involved in the planned recall of the senator to maintain statusquo. The order was made exparte; implying that the decision of the court is to be immediately complied with. This was sequel to a suit instituted by Sen. Dino Melaye through his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome.
