Cristiano Ronaldo To Leave Real Madrid

The Spanish government tax default case against Cristiano Ronaldo might trigger the exit of Portugal star from Real Madrid. According to a Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola, the Real Madrid striker is angry at his treatment by Spanish tax authorities and has expressed his wish to leave the country.

Ronaldo has been accused by the Spanish tax authorities of defrauding it of €14.7m in tax, an accusation which he flatly denied.

A Bola say the 32-year-old striker has made the “irreversible” decision to leave the club, and has informed his teammates of his intentions. The four-time Ballon d’Or winner responded to the tax charges by posting a picture of himself ‘shushing’ at the camera along with the caption “Sometimes the best answer it’s to be quiet”.

“It is clear that the football player did not try to evade taxes,” Ronaldo’s Gestifute management company said.

Ronaldo signed a new five-year contract to stay at the Bernabeu in November 2016, declaring he is ready to play on until his 41st birthday. “This is a special day for me, extending my links with this club, the club of my heart. Renewing for five years is very special and let it be clear that this is not the last contract,” said Ronaldo, only seven months ago.

A Bola recently also claimed that Ronaldo would be the subject of a €180m bid this summer, suggesting this outcome may have been in the pipeline for some time. Paris Saint-Germain have been long-term admirers of the Madeira-born star and held a number of secret meetings with him over a transfer during the 2015/16 season. Club president Nasser El-Khelaifi would jump at another chance to sign Ronaldo, even if there were suggestions he leveraged PSG’s interest to boost the multi-million euro contract extension he signed last year.

Manchester United is also keen on bringing Ronaldo back to Old Trafford especially now that Antoine Griezmann has committed to Athletico Madrid and Andrea Belotti over-priced. Ronaldo won three Champions League titles with Madrid player.
