The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party,Haliru Mohammed Bello and his son, Abba, to bail at N300 million and two sureties each.

Just two days after being arraigned for money laundering, the pair were ordered to pay N300 million to the court, among other bail conditions.

Bello made an appearance in court in a wheelchair on Monday and was later permitted to receive medical treatment under police supervision. Following the appearance, Justice Ahmed Mohammed revealed that the affidavits claiming that Bello was of ill health appear to be legitimate.

Abba was reported to have been suffering from bronchial asthma, while his father has an injury of the spinal cord. In addition to the submission of N300 million bail, the two defendants will also have to submit their international passports to the court.

Justice Mohammed further ruled that Abba Bello must be remanded to the Kuje Prison, while his father will continue receiving care under the Inspector General of Police.

The case has since been adjourned to February 16 for commencement of trial.
