Some operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, May 16th, arrested former Kaduna State governor, Lamaran Yero and a former PDP governorship aspirant in the state in the 2015 general election, Salihu Sagir Takai.
According to EFCC sources, both men were allegedly arrested in connection with former petroleum minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke’s N23billion campaign fund for the 2015 elections.
According to the sources, while the duo spent the night at the commission’s zonal office in Kano, the secretary of PDP in Kano, Alhaji Auwalu Ibrahim Danzabuwa was also arrested.
Recall that recently, some operatives of the EFCC, had also quizzed the former governor of Cross Rivers State, Senator Liyel Imoke, for his alleged involvement in the N500million collected by the Cross Rivers State’s chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Ntufam John Okon.
According to a statement by the EFCC, the N500million was part of the $115million allegedly lodged in Fidelity Bank Plc, in controversial circumstances, during the 2015 electioneering campaign period by the immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison- Madueke.
Also, a former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Imasuen, and a former Secretary to the State Government of Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu, have been interrogated by operatives of the EFCC for collecting the sum of N700million from the fund.
The money was reportedly collected from Fidelity Bank Plc, Mission Road, Benin City branch, in March, 2015.
