A woman who gave birth at the age of 72 has said that her health has suffered since giving birth and that it is harder than she originally thought it would be.
Daljinder Kaur, now 73, gave birth to Armaan, her first child, in April last year in northern India. Since then she has suffered with high blood pressure and weakening joints.
She said: ‘My blood pressure has suffered and I get tired very easily now. I’ve seen several doctors but they just give me medicines and a diet plan. ‘I’m worried for Armaan. I have to take care of my health but I have to take care of Armaan too.
‘Since he’s been crawling I’m on my hands and knees and it’s hard. My body can’t take it. It’s been harder than I thought.’
Daljinder had IVF treatment with her husband Mohinder Singh Gill, 80, who she has been married to for 46 years. At the time of Armaan’s birth, Gill said: ‘I felt upset as I was unable to produce a child. After sometime we thought of having a baby, once again.
The couple travelled from their home in Amritsar, Punjab, to the National Fertility and Test Tube Baby Centre in Hisar, Haryana, to receive treatment. Anurag Bishnoi, who runs the fertility clinic, said: ‘I first tried to avoid the case because she was very weak. But then her medical reports were normal and she was fit to conceive.’
Armaan weighed just 3lbs 9ozs when he was born and now weighs 15lbs, so is still underweight. Daljinder added: ‘He’s quite thin and even diapers of his age don’t fit him. ‘He could possibly be thin because I didn’t feed him properly. I stopped breastfeeding him at three months as my milk wasn’t developing well.
‘We’ve asked doctors if there’s any medicine we can give him to increase his weight but they said let him gain weight naturally.’
Despite the problems, she said that she has no regrets. ‘No matter where I am he’ll come crawling to me. I love him. He is a friendly child and smiles at everyone.’
They plan on taking him to the Golden Temple in Amritsar for his first birthday to receive God’s blessing.
