British born singer Emeli Sande (Adele Emily Gouraguine) defended her participation in the much criticized ‘Band Aid 30’ Ebola charity song, ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’. In her Twitter page she revealed that her edits didn’t make the final cut and that she actually wanted a whole new song.
A week after the charity single’s release, the singer who is of Zambian origin appeared on UK X-Factor on Saturday night, has said that while she believes that the song’s release was from a “place of pure and respectful intent”, she wishes her changes were included.
In a lengthy post on her Twitter page, she said: “Angelique Kidjo and I made and sang our own edits. Unfortunately, none of these made the final cut.”
Emeli, who appeared on the single with the likes of Seal, Angelique Kidjo, Ellie Goulding, Ed Sheeran, Chris Martin, Zoella and Sinead O’Connor, continued: “I am so proud of my Zambian heritage. No offence or disrespect to the beautiful and prosperous continent was ever intended.
I’ve been having so many discussions about this all week. Here are my thoughts on the band aid single… pic.twitter.com/djeYgT9elF
