Human rights activists and members of the civil society groups have renewed calls on President Muhammadu Buhari- led Federal Government to name a national edifice after the late legal luminary, Chief Gani Fawehinmi.
The activists said this during a rally held at the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota as part of activities marking the sixth anniversary of the death of the late Senior Advocate of Nigeria, noted that the late human rights activists contributed immensely to the development of the country while he was alive.
They also canvassed for the protection of the rights of the masses and genuine fight against corruption which they say Fawehinmi would have championed if he were to be alive.
Speaking at the rally, Chairman, Gani Fawenhimi Memorial Organisation, Ayodele Akele described Fawehinmi as a man with unparallel record in the defence of the rights of the less privileged and urged others within his fold to emulate him to the latter.
He said if Gani Fawehinmi were to be alive, he would have gone to court to challenge some decisions he called illegal taken by the present administration in the country.
One of such, according to him, is the unilateral bail out of N700 billion to the insolvent states by the president without recourse to the National Assembly.
He also challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfill his alleged first 100 days in office covenant with the people of the country.
On her part, the President of Women Arise, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin called on Buhari to rename the National Human Rights Commission headquarters in Abuja after late Chief Gani Fawehinmi.
