ENUGU, Nigeria: CATHOLIC leaders in the Enugu Diocese are meeting with clergyman Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka to investigate his claims that President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife want him killed.
Reverend Mbaka , late last year, made headlines when he challenged the current government on its record while in office, saying it had failed to deliver. Since then, he has been the subject of attacks from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and earlier this month, the priest said his life was being threatened.
Reverend Mbaka who leads the Adoration Ministry, had alleged during a sermon he delivered in his church last Sunday, that President Jonathan and his wife Patience want to kill him. However, the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria said Reverend Mbaka is yet to report the allegations to it, hence why several bishops have decided to make the visit.
Reverend Mbaka said: “Let me say to the whole world that President Jonathan and his wife, Patience, are planning to assassinate Father Mbaka. It is a known secret but whoever they want to use, I don’t know as they may not come themselves.
“They may use these unemployed people, the same people I am speaking for. I don’t know why people no longer have the fear of God. Do they think that killing Father Mbaka will make Jonathan and his wife win the election?”
One representative of the Enugu diocese, said investigations are ongoing to determine the legitimacy of Reverend Mbaka’s threat. He added that they will decide on their next course of action after today’s meeting.
