Governors To Reduce Convoy, Travel Less And Dress Moderately

0

The present set of governors in Nigeria has finally decided to take a cue from former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi who demonstrated simplicity, prudence and pragmatism while in government as the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) has resolved that its members would henceforth adopt three measures in the face of the current economic challenges facing the country.

The decision of the 36 state governors to make some adjustment in line with the present reality in the country was revealed by Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai after their meeting in Abuja.

The governors agreed to reduce the number of vehicles in their convoy, put a curb on excessive travels and eschew dressing flamboyantly. “We have agreed that we should lower our external outlook in terms of dressing; excessive travels and convoys.”If you observe, private jet business is not thriving. It is part of deliberate decisions we took,” he said

The governors also resolved at the National Economic Council meeting chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo that the federal government should merge agencies with duplicating roles and responsibilities. The federal government currently has 580 federal agencies and these are considered too many and cost too much.

“At the federal level, we have suggested looking at Orosanye report that suggested merger and reduce duplication of agencies,” he also add.

As the economic bites, Nigerians expected all government officials be it executive, legislative and the judiciary to reduce their excesses. The level of suffering in the country is so real and strong that one can touch it.

Hopefully, the members of the National and State Assemblies will also do something meaningful to show they are in tune with the people.
