Africans residents in the UK in their hundreds, recently got together to honour Africans in the diaspora who had contributed to the enhancement of their community at the Gathering of Africa’s Best (Gab) awards in Essex, London United Kingdom.

The event was held at the Showcase Cinema in Barking, Essex. The 16th GAB awards recognised Africans in the UK that have excelled in their various professions. Special recognition awards were also handed out to technocrats, administrators, businessmen and politicians in Nigeria who have made an impact.

In order to cater for the growing number of guests, the event was held in a cinema. According to its founder Femi Okutubo: “it was also an experiment which could lead to the serving of African food at cinemas in the future.”

“By holding the event at Showcase Cinemas and serving out food here, we hope that it could lead to the selling our African food at other cinemas across the UK. If we do not market our culture, no one else will, so let us hope this is the start of a new development.” He added.
