As Nigeria joined the rest of the world to commemorate the International Women’s Day yesterday, the First Lady, Aisha Buhari used the occasion to drum attention to and intensify the rescue of the 110 schoolgirls abducted in Dapchi by Boko Haram.
The President’s wife, Hajia Aisha Buhari, summed up the pleas with the charge: “Leave our daughters alone! Leave our daughters alone! Leave our daughters alone!”
She said she shares “sorrow and agony of the parents,” as a mother herself. At the National Centre for Women Development in Abuja, Mrs. Buhari stressed that for Nigeria, the day must reflect the nation’s pain and sorrow, following the Chibok abduction, and now Dapchi’s.
She was joined by the wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, to unveiled the ‘Leave Our Daughters Alone’ theme, which she described as a strong call for an end to all abductions. She called on the media to help spread the message and wives of the governors to do same in their states.
