Afrobeats trailblazer, Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, claimed that the sorrow he is currently experiencing as his mother Juliana was laid to rest is beyond anything he has ever felt. His mum passed away on August 18, 2023.
Wizkid said, “I have no words to describe the pain that I feel, and I know every member of my family shares this pain with me, at the wake and tribute service in memory of the deceased on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at the Balmoral Hall of the Federal Palace Hotel and Casino, Victoria Island, Lagos. I won’t say, “take away the pain,” because I know it’s impossible, but I do believe that God, in his unending mercy, will give us solace so that we can move on with our lives. The hurt is severe and excruciating. I have never experienced such intense pain in my life. . I am lost, but I pray and I know God will comfort every one of us.”
My mother’s death is the deepest pain I’ve ever felt in my life – Wizkid.
The Afrobeat musician said it “hurts deeply” to lose his mother.
ÈThe ache is severe, he declared. It aches a lot. I’ve never experienced pain quite like it. At his mother’s Thursday wake-keep ceremony, Wizkid remarked, “I’m lost, but I trust God will comfort everyone of us.”
Last Wednesday, a candlelight parade was held in memory of the singer’s mother.
Following a nearly month-long period of quiet during which he lamented the loss of his mother, this is Wizkid’s first public appearance.

‘Mummy Mi’, a song by Wizkid from his 2014 album ‘Ayo’, was written in honour of mothers everywhere.
The Wizkid singer thanked his mother in the song for all the happiness she had brought him and vowed to lavish her with the best things in life.
On Friday, October 13, following a service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (City of David), Victoria Island, the late Juliana was ultimately laid to rest.
One of Wizkid’s older sisters, Yetunde, led the first Bible reading at the funeral, while the deceased’s younger brother, Olusanya Dawodu, presented a eulogy.
During the service, a multimedia presentation of the deceased’s life and times was screened, which caused both family members and other attendees to cry and experience extreme emotion.
The late Juliana had nine grandchildren: David, Boluwatife, Iremofetide, Moyinoluwa, Modesireoluwa, Ayodeji, Ireoluwaposi, Zion, and Michael. She also had four children: Yetunde, Omolara, Olubusayo, and Ayodeji (Wizkid).
