One of the Supreme Court Justices facing corruption allegations is currently at a federal high court in Abuja. Justice Sylvester Ngwuta is facing charges of money laundering levelled against him by the federal government.
He was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on October 8. The DSS claimed that it recovered huge deposits of foreign currencies from him, and the office of the attorney-general, subsequently filed a 14-count charge of money laundering against the judge.
In the charge, Ngwuta was alleged to have possessed two diplomatic passports and multiple international passports, contrary to section 10 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act.
However, Ngwuta had maintained innocence, accusing Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, of being behind his travails.
He alleged that Amaechi appealed to him to influence the ruling of the last governorship election in Rivers state in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
