King Mohammed VI of Morocco arrived in Nigeria for a 3-day official visit. The King met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock at about 1.30 pm.

The king who led a delegation of 300 Moroccan businessmen to Nigeria inspected a guard of honour mounted by men of the Guards Brigade. Guards Brigade honoured the visiting King with 21-gun salute.

President Buhari and the King met behind closed doors, before leaving the Presidential Villa for National Mosque to perform the  Juma’at Prayer. The two leaders will continued their meeting after the Juma’at prayer, which focuses on bilateral trade and economic relations.

The King is visiting Nigeria for the first time since he ascended the throne in July 23, 1999. With contracts across Africa running into billions of dollars, Morocco is placing business at the heart of its strategy to win support for its re-entry into the African Union.

Nigeria and Morocco are expected to sign about 15 bilateral agreements during the King’s visit. The visit will also put to rest the disagreement between the two countries over a purported phone conversation between former President Goodluck Jonathan and King Mohammed VI before the 2015 general elections.
