Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has once again re-affirm his position on workers’ salaries in the light of the economic challenges facing the state and the country in general.
The governor spoke yesterday in Lafia during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Interim Management Committee (IMC) chairmen of 11 local government areas.
Al-Makura, in his remark, asked the organized labour to choose between mass sack to allow implementation for the minimum wage previously enjoyed by workers or receive reduced pay.
Governor said he preferred to pay full salary, but explained that government cannot afford to do so due to the economic situation. “We are faced with the difficult option of paying full salary and stopping all development projects and amenities,” he said.
Al-Makura begged the workers to adjust the hard stance and toe the line of reasoning on review of their salaries.
