Lionel Messi’s second half winner against Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon on Sunday helped Barcelona clinch their 23rd La Liga title.
Defending champion Atletico went close to getting a lead before the Argentinean forward exchanged passes with Pedro and fired low into the corner. His 41st goal of the season ensured Real Madrid finished second in the points table, despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick against Espanyol.
With one game left Barcelona now hold a four-point unassailable lead ahead of their rivals.
Meanwhile, Atletico have been left looking over their shoulders, with Valencia only three points behind on fourth place and with a superior head-to-head record.
