Multiple blasts in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital killed at least 6 people yesterday.
The first blast, a suicide attempt, went off at the Jidari Polo area, opposite the Federal High Court at about 4:10 am in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council when three suspected Boko Haram insurgents went to St. Hillary Catholic Church. As they were being questioned by policemen, a male bomber detonated explosive devices on him, killing self while two others were gunned down by the police.
The second blast took place at 7:40 am at Muna Garage, along Gomburu Ngala road when a male bomber was prevented from entering the motor park, and detonated the explosive concealed on him.
The third, a heavy explosion, occurred at Mafa- Maiduguri entrance at a check point to where the bomber rode a tricycle and detonated an explosive, killing himself and members of the Civilian JTF.
The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Damaih Chukwu, told newsmen in Maiduguri that there were four explosions in the morning and six people were killed, including two Civilian JTF members.
The state Coordinator of the Civilian JTF, Elder Abba Aji Kalih, has sent condolence messages to families of the members who died in the blast.
