Voice subscriptions increased 13.87% over the previous year during the third quarter of 2022.
Nigeria had 222.5 million phone customers as of the end of 2022, according to data compiled from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The 195.5 million subscribers counted at the end of 2021 were increased by 27.1 million in the 2022 number.
In its Telecoms Data: Active Voice and Internet per State, Porting and Tariff Information report for the fourth quarter of 2022, released in Abuja on Monday, the NBS provided the statistics.
The research also showed that voice subscriptions increased 13.87% over the previous year during the third quarter of 2022.
Growth was 4.89 percent from one quarter to the next.
A total of 154.9 million active internet subscribers were reported by the NBS at the end of 2022 as opposed to 142 million at the end of 2021.
“This represents a 9.07% increase in active internet subscriptions year over year, while internet subscriptions grew by 1.35% quarter over quarter,” it said.
According to a state-by-state research, Lagos State had the most active phone users in 2022 with 26.5 million, followed by Ogun with 13 million.
Third place went to Kano State with 12.4 million phone users.
Ebonyi and Ekiti had 1.9 million and two million customers, respectively, and Bayelsa had the fewest phone subscribers with 1.6 million.
The study also revealed that Lagos State, with 18.7 million subscribers, had the most internet users, followed by Ogun with 9.2 million and Kano State with 8.5 million.
Ebonyi and Ekiti had 1.3 million and 1.5 million customers, respectively, and Bayelsa had the fewest internet users with 1.1 million, according to the report.
