The Nigerian Army on Tuesday commissioned a newly established media centre for its counter-insurgency operation tagged ‘Lafiya Dole’ in the country’s volatile North East.
The media centre, which is to serve as a hub for all its media related information dissemination needs, came about at the end of the 3rd Quarter Study Period for Army Public Relations Officers (APROs) which held for three days in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital last month.
APROs had, during the study period, noted the need for a media centre equipped with all the tools needed for prompt and speedy dissemination of information in an articulated and organised manner.
Commissioning the new centre, the GOC of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Lamidi Adeosun, who represented the theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Yusha’u Mahmud Abubakar, disclosed that the establishment of the media centre in Maiduguri was based on the order of the chief of Army Staff who had also delivered a paper entitled “Contemporary Warfare and War Reporting: the Dilemma of Military Leadership” during the APRO study period.
The Army chief, had, during the event last month, agreed that the media centre was crucial to the counter insurgency operations, hence the need for its establishment at the command and control centre of the counter insurgency operations.
GOC Adeosun said “the centre will be open to the media at all times to get information on the activities of the Army in the Northeast region, specifically, the counter-insurgency operation”.
