Nigerian-British Artiste Seal to Perform in South Africa

Award-winning singer and songwriter, Seal, will be performing in South Africa for a three-day tour in June.

Better known by his stage name, Seal, Henry Olusegun Adeola Akanbi Samuel , is an English singer and songwriter but of Nigerian and Brazilian origin.  He has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and is known for his international hits, including “Killer”, “Crazy” and “Kiss from a Rose“, which was also an original soundtrack for the 1995 film Batman Forever. He worked briefly as a coach on The Voice Australia in 2012 and 2013. So far, he has released a total of nine studio albums in his career.

Seal was born (February 19, 1963) in Paddington General Hospital, London, England, to a Nigerian mother, Adebisi Ogundeji, and a Brazilian father, Francis Samuel. Seal’s first and middle names are in Yoruba language. He was raised in the City of Westminster in inner London by his foster family. He received a two-year diploma, or associate degree, in architecture and worked in various jobs in the London area.

 

 

 

The obvious scars on his face are linked to a medial condition  called discoid lupus erythematosus – a condition that specifically affects the skin above the neck.

He has won several music awards throughout his career, including three Brit Awards—winning Best British Male in 1992, four Grammy Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award. As a songwriter, he received the British Academy’s Ivor Novello Award, for Best Song Musically and Lyrically, in consecutive years for “Killer” (1990) and “Crazy” (1991).

Although, now divorced from ex-wife and model, Heidi Klum, Seal briefly dated another famous model, Tyra Banks, in 1996 and the couple kept their affair under the radar. They went out as a pair only once (the Essence Awards). Their romance was short lived and ended in October of 1996.
