Comic Republic is an online multimedia firm with a primary focus on producing and disseminating original African comic books digitally. It was founded in 2013 by Jide Martin in Nigeria. The business caters to audiences of all ages with a unique assortment of African stories about heroes and villains. With a foundation of more than 100 distinctive characters and hundreds of pages of comic book art, Comic Republic presents a world of different heroes with a wide audience while still providing authentic African material.
This week, UCP, a division of the Universal Studio Group‘revealed a collaboration with Comic Republic, an online Nigerian multimedia business that specialises in publishing original African comic books. The partnership include creating a movie and television show based on characters from Comic Republic’s Vanguards Universe. The self-styled Gods of humanity are depicted in The Vanguards Universe coming together to punish the Lagosians for the transgressions of the Guardians. Selwyn Seyfu Hinds, an American screenwriter, has joined Mad Massive Entertainment to develop and direct the creation of works based on their library of comic books and characters.
Jide Martin’s childhood desire was to establish a world filled with superheroes similar to those found in the comic books he read as an adolescent.
“Mom bought me comic books. I merely adored them and everything they stood for. I used to trace comics by placing a blank sheet of paper underneath, he remarked.
When Martin founded Comic Republic in 2013, a Nigerian multimedia firm devoted to producing and disseminating unique African comic books, he would realise that childhood goal. The dream took an even bigger step forward last week.
Martin told CNN that he is eager to collaborate with UCP to provide much-needed worldwide coverage for African topics. The CEO of Comic Republic stated, “I’ve always wanted to show that you can deliver great product out of Africa because at the time we started, there was nothing such coming out of the region.
He continued by saying that Comic Republic is a good fit for this transaction because it has put a lot of effort into creating a connected superhero universe in its comics over the past ten years. We’re the only ones with a thoroughly developed superhero universe, he claimed. Worldwide, there are Black creators, but they all specialise in single-title superheroes. But unlike Marvel or DC, we have a world of characters with Vanguards.
In a press release, Martin noted that Comic Republic is committed to conveying tales in genuine ways. “For 10 years, Comic Republic has concentrated on creating a community of storytellers and artists committed to showcasing Africa’s best side through high-caliber artwork, animations, comics, and authentic stories that would fill the hearts of all Africans and those living outside the continent with pride. When more people can view African heroes as role models, I think the perception of our continent will be better moulded, Martin added.
“We were patient to ensure that we found the right partners to take the story to the places we couldn’t and, most importantly, do justice to the culture it emanates from while providing much-needed representation for a generation of people that have been left out. The partnership needed to benefit the global community and us by collaboratively taking our stories, nurturing them, and delivering them to a worldwide audience. I am thrilled to be doing this with UCP, and I can’t wait to show you all what we’ve been up to.”
