Nigeria’s D’Tigers Wins Maiden AfroBasketball Championship

After many failed attempts, Nigeria senior basketball team-D’Tiger defeated 11-time champion and eternal rivals, Angola  74-65 to win its maiden AfroBasketball championship.

D’Tigers first time ever victory, in what was a rematch re-match of the AfroBasket 2003 final, when the Angolans topped the Nigerians 86-65 in Alexandria, Egypt,

Oguchi was the star player, as Nigeria created history in Rades, on the outskirts of Tunis, Tunisia. They have now secured direct qualification for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, while Angola along with those that finish third and fourth, will claim places in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The win at the 28th Afrobasket ‎championship in Tunisia also qualifies Nigeria to appear at the Rio 2016 Olympics. This will be the second appearance of the Nigeria’s basketball team, D’Tiger to appear at the Olympics following the 2012 London Olympic.

Meanwhile, second-place Angola joined third- and fourth-place Tunisia and Senegal in booking their places for the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs).
