The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has announced that Nike is to become its new kit sponsor.
The three-year agreement between Nike and the NFF will see the US sportswear giant, which replaces Adidas, supply the Nigerian national men’s and women’s soccer teams until 2018.
Nike will provide team kits, performance and training apparel and equipment, including footballs, to the Nigerian national soccer teams at every level of the game, including the men’s and women’s under-20 teams, under-17 teams, Olympic teams, and the men’s beach soccer team.
Under the terms of the agreement, Nike will provide the NFF with an ‘exclusive edition’ team kit for all sides until the 2016/17 kit is launched in mid-2016. The Nigeria under-20 men’s team will be the first team to wear the new Nike kit at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand, which runs from 30th May to 20th June 2015.
Laurent Payre, the Nike Africa vice president and general manager, said: “The passion for football in Nigeria is renowned and Nike is committed to supporting and advancing the game at all levels through inspiration and innovation for young men and women.”
The NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, said: “This exciting partnership with Nike signifies our commitment toward building and strengthening a successful football future in Nigeria. “The game enjoys a huge following across the country and we want to fuel participation and ultimately the success of our future national teams.”
Nigeria joins the likes of Brazil, England, France, the Netherlands and Portugal in Nike’s portfolio of federation sponsorships.
