An estimated 50,000 or more protesters are expected to storm the National Assembly today. The protest is coming as a result of the impasse that characterized the 2016 budget and the purchase of 106 Toyota Land Cruiser by the Senate.
#OccupyNass, a movement to occupy the National Assembly is geared to institute change in the leadership of the National Assembly led by Bukola Saraki.
Nigerians are miffed and disappointed with the National Assembly on the ways it has conducted its legislative affairs so far. Many sees the National Assembly as a clog in the wheel of progress of this administration. The National Assembly is not in sync with the people or the executive.
The protest is alleged to have been spawned from long-standing issues regarding Senate President Bukola Saraki who is going trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for false asset declaration and the Panama Paper which indict him of other financial improprieties.
The initiative has drawn widespread reaction over social media, with many coming out in support of the protest.
