Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman (South-South) Dr. Cairo Ojougboh has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the Centenary City project with a view to exposing alleged high-level corruption that was committed by high-ranking officials in the last administration.
Ojougboh made this call to the President in a petition dated July 21st 2015, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC was also copied for further actions. The project according to Ojougboh, covered over 1,500 hectares of land in the federal Capital City Abuja, a land size he said was equal to Maitama, Asokoro and Guzape districts put together.
Addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday, the PDP stalwart said President Goodluck Jonathan approved the project and did the ground breaking as part of activities of the nation’s centenary activities even though he was not aware of the scheming and fraud committed by top officials of the Federal Government in the project.
Ojougboh stated: “Yes, the former president signed the papers as was presented to him by the former secretary of the Government SGF, he was not properly briefed because of vested interests, I can defend him, he was not part of the fraud. If Jonathan had been properly briefed he would not have approved the project not to talk of going to perform the ground breaking of the project.
