Before he started acting, he belonged to a rap group called Wolfpack which he formed with his cousin in 1991. He began writing poetry, short stories and songs at the age of ten.
Actor Omar Epps (born Omar Hashim Epps in July 20, 1973) is an American actor, rapper, songwriter, and record producer. His film roles include Major League II, Higher Learning, Scream 2, The Wood, In Too Deep, and Love and Basketball.
He made his feature film debut with rapper Tupac Shakur in the 1992 film Juice.
He has signed on to join the cast of producer Will Packer’s A Meyers Christmas, a comedy about an estranged family who has to come together for their first holidays together since the death of the family matriarch. Epps joins a star studded cast that features Gabrielle Union, Danny Glover, Oscar winner Mo’Nique, Kimberly Elise and Jesse T. Usher.
A Meyers Christmas was written by author and filmmaker David E. Talbert, who will also direct. Talbert previously adapted the comedy Baggage Claim from his own best-selling book of the same name, and also directed. The 2013 comedy starred Paula Patton, Derek Luke, Taye Diggs and Jill Scott.
Packer will produce A Meyers Christmas through Universal and his own Will Packer Prods., which has a deal with Universal. Packer has been behind a number of box-office hits in recent years, including Ride Along and its upcoming sequel, as well as this past summer’s hit Straight Outta Compton.
Omar has several acting roles lined up in the coming months, including the TV series Shooter with Ryan Phillipe (based on the 2007 Mark Wahlberg movie), the hip-hop drama Caesar with Russell Simmons and the drama Hustle, about money-laundering.
