Is the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on the path to self destruction? The once touted biggest political party in Africa lost power to the All Progressives Congress which led to the party’s leadership tussle. Now, the Senator Ahmed Makarfi’s faction of the party has submitted an application to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of a party named ‘Advanced Peoples Democratic Party’.
The crisis in the PDP has defiled all solution including attempts by former President Goodluck Jonathan to resolve the unending brouhaha and legal pronouncements. The intolerance of the two factions of the party for one another knew no bounds.
INEC’s spokesman, Nick Dazang, said when contacted on the Advanced PDP application, “the Commission has received not less than 70 applications from associations seeking registration and it is processing them.” “APDP must be one of them”, he said.
