President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday welcomed the Super Falcons, female football champions, who just won the African Women Championship.
He said the government has fixed November 5th for an official reception when the country will thank them properly for doing them proud. The Nigerian ladies beat Cameroon 2-0 in the final played last Saturday, to lift the trophy for a record seventh time in Windoek, Namibia.
Speaking while receiving the female champions at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting the President noted that discipline had brought the female this far.
Thanking them for making the country proud, the President noted that though the male team has been doing well, but they been slackened by ‘internal crisis’ while the female team has been more stable. “You have shown skill and consummate discipline” with which you have made your country proud.
In his speech the minister of Sports, Tamuno Danagogo lauded the President’s efforts in the sports sector. He added that because of the President’s support the country was able reclaim its status as the football champions.
