Opportunities for Western Australian and Indonesian collaboration in the oil and gas sector have been highlighted during day three of LNG 18, the 18th International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas.
Addressing an Australia Indonesia Business Council (AIBC), Western Australian State Development Minister Bill Marmion said WA’s capacity for innovation and dependable service were increasingly valuable assets across the region.
“Although Indonesia and WA are both significant exporters of LNG, there are great benefits in working together,” Mr Marmion said.
“There are more than 800 global and local energy companies and related equipment, technology and service providers based in Perth, many of which could provide expertise and technical know-how to help improve the efficiency of Indonesia’s gas sector to meet increasing domestic demand.”
Key presentations were given by Pertamina President Commissioner, Tanri Abeng and Indonesia’s Director-General of Oil and Gas Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Wiratmaja Puja.
The AIBC event followed an LNG 18 investor forum led by Mr Marmion earlier this week.
“I am pleased by the strong attendance at both events,” he said. “The investor forum was promoted through the State Government’s network of overseas offices – including in Jakarta – and was oversubscribed.
“With export potential up, the State Government understands the most important resources here at LNG 18 – after people and petroleum – are certainty, security and confidence, and these are among our State’s greatest assets. So, as we continue to say across the region and around the world: ‘Now is the best time to invest here in the West’.”
