After 13 hours of grueling meeting of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress on the fate of President Jacob Zuma, the situation is still unclear as the country’s currency, rand slipped against the dollar in early trading on Tuesday.
According to feelers, the ANC has decided to recall Zuma, 75, if he refused to resign. The embattled leader 48 hours to tender his letter of resignation.
Zuma came to power in 2009, after he orchestrated the eviction of Thabo Mbeki but his last years in office have been mired in a series of high-profile corruption scandals and accusations of mismanagement that has seen a steady decline in the popularity of Nelson Mandela’s storied liberation movement.
