The commander of the operation aimed at eliminating the Boko Haram has urged the terrorists to surrender and utilize an opportunity to undergo rehabilitation.

Major Gen. Leo Irabor, Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, made the call following successes recorded in the fight against the terrorist sect. In particular is the killing of scores of insurgents and rescue of over 800 civilians from the Sambisa Forest in Borno State, announced on Wednesday

“Let me therefore, reiterate my earlier admonishment to the misguided BHT (Boko Haram terror) elements to give up their ignoble adventure,” said Irabor said. “They are advised to surrender to the military or other security agencies without further delay.

He reassured the terrorists they would be humanely treated in line with international best practices and in accordance with the International Humanitarian Law. “Failure to do so (surrender) will be unpalatable for them,” said Irabor.

He stated plans had been concluded to give those who surrender, purpose-driven rehabilitation which will make them lead responsible lives.”

Boko Haram, the Islamic militant sect that has carried out deadly attacks in northeast Nigeria since 2009, has spurned previous calls to surrender.
