Six soldiers have been injured with two seriously as a car ploughs into them in what has been described ‘deliberate act’.
French police say a vehicle slammed into soldiers guarding the northern suburb of Levallois-Perret, before driving away. Authorities are now searching for the BMW and its driver. Two of those who were hit are seriously injured.
The attack happened at the Place de Verdun in Levallois-Perret around 8:00 a.m. local time. Levallois-Perret, a quiet and affluent neighborhood, is home to the headquarters of the DCRI, France’s counter intelligence agency.
The mayor of Levallois-Perret says it was a deliberate act targeting security forces. Patrick Balkany told BFM television it was an “odious attack” which was “without a doubt deliberate.” Balkany said the car was “pre-positioned” in a small alleyway, waiting for troops from the 35th Infantry Regiment to come out of the building.
