Tiwa Savage’s upcoming film “Water and Garri” is generating a lot of buzz.

Storyline
Savage portrays Aisha, a fashion designer who is seen her career soar in the United States. After ten years, she goes back to her hometown when a family member passes away. She quickly learns that things are not as they were when she left.
Her country has seen violent and tense episodes that have left it completely changed. She must learn to live with the wounds and face the guilt she left behind as she makes new connections with her loved ones, old friends, and her former partner.
We are eagerly awaiting the first teaser or trailer for this drama-with-emotional stakes that was filmed on Ghana’s Cape Coast.
Director
The fact that Meji Alabi is the director is hardly surprising. Afrobeats smash songs like Davido’s Assurance and Burna Boy’s On The Low are among the many hits produced by the Grammy Award-winning Nigerian-British director, filmmaker, and photographer. He has also directed and photographed a few music videos for Savage, including Sugarcane, Get It Now, and Ma Lo.
Filmmaking and music video directing are very different from one another. Recall that in 2020, Alabi collaborated with Beyoncé on her Black is King video project. Thus, we’re already in capable hands.
Cast Members
The cast roster currently includes Mike Afolarin, Andrew Yaw Bunting, and Jemima Osunde. Nollywood actor Afolarin has acted in telenovelas, short films, and the critically acclaimed Kasala directed by Ema Edosio. However, it was his role in the Netflix series Far From Home that elevated him to a position of prominence.
Bunting, the Ghanaian actor, is renowned for his work in Dynamite (2023), The Trap (2021) and Cocoa Brown (2016). Osunde, on the other hand, isn’t new to Nollywood screens, as many would remember her from her compelling part in Tope Oshin’s New Money (2018).
Arguably the biggest news at this point is that the movie will be available on Prime Video. Since its 2022 debut in the Nigerian market, the streamer has been steadily acquiring original material and growing its collection of locally produced content. There is no word on when it will be released.
“Water and Garri” is the latest addition to titles such as She “Must Be Obeyed”, “LOL: Last One Laughing Naija”, and “Gangs of Lagos”. In addition to being distributed by Prime Video, Unbound Studios, a renowned African production firm, and JM Films, a subsidiary of the former, are the creators of “Water and Garri”.
