Troops Killed Okon Iyo, A Notorious Militant In Cross River State

The Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta with the code-named- Operation Delta Safe said it had shot dead a notorious militant, popularly known as Okon Iyo, while trying to escape during a raid on Efut Esighi forest in Southern Cross River State.

This revelation was made by the coordinator of the Joint Media Campaign Centre, Lt. Col. Olaolu Daudu, in a statement in Yenagoa. He said troops of Operation Delta Safe deployed at Ikang border also discovered another militants’ shrine with the group’s Chief Priest arrested with box of ammunition at Ekpri Eboutong Estate, Bakassi Local Government Area.

He said: “Troops of Sector 4 deployed at Efut Esighi in Southern Cross River State, during anti-militancy operation, raided Efut Esighi forest and killed a notorious militant, popularly known as Okon Iyo, while he was trying to escape.

“Similarly, troops discovered the dead body of one of the Bakassi Strike Force militant, who was earlier engaged in Efut Esighi but escaped with gun injuries. “His body was found in a bush close to the main road in Effionsa, Bakassi Local Government Area. “Troops also raided the compound of a suspected member of Bakassi Strike Force, Mr. Otobong Sunday Essien, at Road 27 Resettlement Centre Bakassi, where a motor bike was recovered from his compound.

“Troops intercepted a Passat car owned by a suspected Bakassi Strike Force militant, known as G1. He is the sentry Commander of the group.”
